The Canadian saves another break point on 2-2, misses two on 4-3 in his favor, and on 4-4 loses serve but regains it soon after without conceding set point to Cobolli. It goes to the tie-break, which is dominated 7-2 by Flavio.

Two breaks also in the first two games of the second set but this time the first is in Shapovalov’s favor and the second in Cobolli’s. The North American at 2-2 misses a break point, then in the fifth game he breaks serve from the Italian and this time holds the advantage to even the set count.

The first break points of the deciding set come at 4-3 for Cobolli: Shapovalov goes down 0-40 but saves himself, then he is the one who snatches the serve on 4-4 from Flavio, who, however, immediately recovers it at the third opportunity without conceding match point. Once again it was Cobolli who won the tie-break, closed on 7-5 after more than two and a half hours of battle.
