Trentino Volleyball has chosen Marcelo Mendez

Trentino Volleyball has chosen Marcelo Mendez as the new coach of the reigning Italian champion team. Sixty-one-year-old Argentine, originally from Buenos Aires but also holding an Italian passport, has bound himself to the Via del Brennero club with a two-year contract, until June 2027.

He arrives in Trento after a significant four-year stint in Poland, on the benches of Resovia and Jastrzebski, to usher in a new technical path that can make the team make a further leap in quality. Marcelo Mendez will bring to bear all the volleyball knowledge accumulated over a forty-year career.

The new helmsman of the Trentino team has also coached two national teams (Spain and Argentina, with which he will play the World Cup in the summer before devoting himself exclusively to Itas Trentino) and major clubs in Brazil (Monteclaros and Sada), Poland and Spain, collecting 37 titles with clubs and four medals with his country’s Selecciòn, including bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“I am really happy to become the coach of Itas Trentino and to lead the reigning Italian champion team,” were Marcelo Mendez’s first statements.

I am coming to a great club, which over time has shown all its organizational and managerial skills and all its intuition to always set up very competitive rosters. Sitting on the Gialloblù bench will launch a new personal challenge, because never before have I been able to coach in the top Italian league. I will do it with Trentino Volleyball, the club that wears the scudetto on its jerseys; I will work every day so that I can continue to have it on that uniform in the future”.
