Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in Berlin finals without playing

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini are in the finals of the ‘Berlin Open’ (WTA 500 on grass). The two Italians in the semifinals benefited from the forfeits of Spain’s Paula Badosa and Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur (the latter starring in Paolini’s elimination in the singles round of 16).
Badosa had in fact retired in the singles quarters after losing the first set 6-1 to China’s Wang due to a right hip injury.
Sunday Errani and Paolini will play for the trophy with the winners of the challenge –scheduled for tomorrow–between the pair formed by Asia Muhammad of the United States and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands and the duo consisting of Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia and Olivia Nicholls of Britain.
