Sunday’s 4-1 success against Wydad Casablanca allowed Juventus to celebrate its passage to the round of 16 of the Club World Cup a day in advance. A few hours later, Manchester City annihilated Al Ain with a peremptory 6-0, in turn detaching the pass for the knockout stage.The direct clash between Igor Tudor’s men and Pep Guardiola’s men scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at 9 p.m. Italian time in Orlando, Florida, will therefore be decisive for first place.

Juventus is in its fourth overall participation in an event that awards the title of world champion: in 1973, in fact, it disputed the Intercontinental by taking advantage of Ajax’s forfeit, losing 1-0 to Independiente; in 1985 it won the same trophy by beating Argentinos Juniors on penalties (4-2 after the 2-2 draw at 120′); finally, in 1996 it boasted what was considered the rainbow title by beating River Plate 1-0.
