Club World Cup: Juventus first in the round if… combinations

Sunday’s 4-1 success against Wydad Casablanca allowed Juventus to celebrate its passage to the round of 16 of the Club World Cup a day in advance. A few hours later, Manchester City annihilated Al Ain with a peremptory 6-0, in turn detaching the pass for the knockout stage. The direct clash between Igor Tudor’s men and Pep Guardiola’s men scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at 9 p.m. Italian time in Orlando, Florida, will therefore be decisive for first place.
The goal difference between the two teams is the same.
The goal difference of the two teams is +8, but Juventus scored 9 goals compared to the Citizens’ 8.
This means that the Bianconeri would qualify as first in the group not only by winning the Camping World Stadium challenge, but also by coming away with a draw. Manchester City, on the other hand, is obliged to win to avoid the’intersection with the first of Group H, which could be Real Madrid.
The first in Group G, the one with the Bianconeri, will also have the advantage of not having to travel from Orlando, taking the field again at 3 a.m. Italian night between Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1. The runners-up, on the other hand, will have to travel to Miami (in the same state but separated by about 400 kilometers), enjoying a few more hours of rest but finding themselves forced to play in the boiling Florida afternoon: the kickoff of the match against the first of Group H is in fact scheduled for 9 p.m. Italian time (3 p.m. local time) on July 1.
Juventus is in its fourth overall participation in an event that awards the title of world champion: in 1973, in fact, it disputed the Intercontinental by taking advantage of Ajax’s forfeit, losing 1-0 to Independiente; in 1985 it won the same trophy by beating Argentinos Juniors on penalties (4-2 after the 2-2 draw at 120′); finally, in 1996 it boasted what was considered the rainbow title by beating River Plate 1-0.
