Maurizio Gherardini is the new president of the LBA

At the Hyatt Centric hotel in Milan, the Lega Basket Serie A assembly was held with the first item on the agenda being the election of the president. Maurizio Gherardini, the only candidate for the position, was elected president with a three-year term starting with the approval of the final budget for the 2024-25 season, the term until which current president Umberto Gandini will be in office.

“I thank the clubs for the opportunity and the trust, and I would like to thank Umberto Gandini for his work on behalf of Lega Basket over these years – said the new LBA number one -. I will try to help clubs through development and the big changes that the basketball world is experiencing: it will be an interesting challenge and I count on everyone’s help. I like words like sharing, sustainability, visibility and positivity”.

“I am proud of the work carried out in these years together with the Serie A clubs – the words of Gandini -We had set ourselves the goal of achieving greater visibility of our league and its protagonists, and I think the results have been seen. I will leave a stronger League, in step with the times and capable of better interpreting the challenges that the market requires; I wish Maurizio Gherardini, an experienced and successful executive, success in the challenges he will face in this role for the common good of our basketball; I am at his disposal to work on a complete transition of powers focused on maximum collaboration”.

Maurizio Gherardini is the 19th president in the history of the Basketball League. He succeeds Adalberto Tedeschi, Giancarlo Tesini, Gianni Corsolini, Luciano Acciari, Gianni De Michelis, Giulio Malgara, Roberto Allievi, Angelo Rovati, Alfredo Cazzola, Sergio D’Antoni, Marco Madrigali, Enrico Prandi, Umberto Pieraccioni, Francesco Corrado, Valentino Renzi, Fernando Marino, Egidio Bianchi and Umberto Gandini.
