Lara Gut-Behrami heralds the date of her farewell to racing

The next sports season, the one that will lead the winter sports world to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games, will be Lara Gut-Behrami’s last on the main Alpine skiing circuit, which in addition to the Five Circles event also includes the World Cup that will kick off next fall. This was confirmed by the Swiss athlete herself, during a business and financial themed event, which had her among the special guests, held in Zurich.
Born in 1991 and raised in Comano in the canton of Ticino, Lara Gut-Behrami is one of the legends of alpine skiing, boasting in her palmarès, among other trophies, two overall and seven specialty World Cups, one European Cup, nine rainbow medals, two of which are gold, and three Olympic podiums, with the gold won in the Super-G in Beijing 2022 being the icing on the cake.
As for her post-career, the Swiss skier’s only announced plan is to remain close to her husband, former soccer player Valon Behrami, who in recent weeks has accepted a managerial role at Watford, a London club engaged in the Championship, the second tier of the English soccer pyramid.
Before retiring, however, there’s one more season to go, with the goal of ending a legendary career in style: in the season that just ended, she achieved her 100th World Cup podium (48 wins, 28 second places, 24 third places), finishing second overall behind Federica Brignone and first in the Super-G specialty cup just ahead of the Aosta Valley racer.
