Italrugby overwhelming Namibia, Gonzalo Quesada enjoys defense

It started off on the right foot for Italy in the 2025 Summer Tour. The Azzurri overcame Namibia with a 73-6 result at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek.
“Good not to score tries,” Gonzalo Quesada began at the end of the match win against Namibia, “it was a goal we set ourselves at halftime. On offense I am very satisfied: we scored a lot of goals with good timing.”
“A year ago in Samoa in similar conditions we mismanaged the game. This time, however, no, we did the work so that the difference would be seen on the field and this is a growth of the team. The negative notes concern the injuries of Riccioni and Marin: we will wait for news about them.”
“I think it was a good game by the team. Before the game I didn’t exaggerate by saying that it could be dangerous: it was the players who worked well and got a good result. We were good in the drives, in the scrimmage. The only point I didn’t like was the discipline.”
“No one in the group thinks we can relax after this win. We know the value of South Africa, but as I said the important thing was to show our value on the field.”
On Giacomo Da Re – player of the match – he said, “In 2023, in November, at the first gathering of the national team, I had coffee with Giacomo Da Re. He was playing little, not feeling mentally fit and asked me not to consider him for the national team. We talked and he jumped at the chance to go to Zebre and have a better chance to play. He had a top season that allowed him to return to the national team and today he was Player of the match. That’s a good story to tell,” Quesada stressed.
