Another blue player in the NBA, although not right away. In the second round of the NBA Draft, an event staged on Italian night, Saliou Niang crowned his big dream: he was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers to play in the NBA.
The 21-year-old Senegalese wing naturalized Italian was chosen at the end of the second round, exactly at call number 58. Mike Gansey explained the franchise’s reasons for targeting the former star of Dolomiti Energia Trentino: “In the last two seasons he has grown so much, he has made really incredible strides”, his words on the sidelines at the event.
The same Mike Gansey also explained what the future will be, at least in the immediate future of Saliou Niang: “He will stay in Europe next year. The hope is that he can play the Summer League with us. The national team has commitments in August and September and he could be part of it. That would be great for him. However he will stay in Italy next year and he will play with Virtus Bologna, a Euroleague team. We will follow him closely”.
Although not right away, Saliou Niang, 21, is yet another Italian prospect who, with his talent, manages to conquer the’NBA. Now he will just have to think about doing well with Virtus Bologna. Then he will get his chance in the’NBA, wearing the Cleveland Cavs jersey.
