Rugby: Italy overwhelms Namibia 73-6 in test match

Convincing debut for rugby Italy in the 2025 Summer Tests. The team led by Gonzalo Quesada lived up to expectations by decisively beating Namibia with a resounding 73-6, in a match that showed solidity, enthusiasm and, above all, the depth of a group that, even without the big boys, was able to respond in attendance. Record for the Azzurri as they achieved the best ever gap in a match, 67 points gap. The record dated back to 1993 against Croatia.
The Argentine coach chose to leave many of the senators at rest, giving space to youngsters and athletes with less international experience. A choice that proved successful: eleven goals scored by the Azzurri, who dominated the match from the first to the last minute. A capital test that allows Quesada to look forward to the next much more challenging engagements against South Africa, current number one in the world ranking.
Italy started strong right away. It won a penalty goal after a few minutes and took advantage of the opponent’s indiscipline, with Namibia forced to play outnumbered. The Africans tried to stay in the game with two free kicks by Tiaan Swanepoel, but the technical and physical difference quickly emerged. Italy extended the lead in the first half with goals from Trulla, Odogwu, Marin, Gesi and Menoncello, ending the first half 40-6.
In the second half, the script did not change. The Azzurri continued to attack and manage the game with lucidity, never conceding space to the opponents. Fusco, Spagnolo, Varney and again Trulla (author of a hat-trick) signed the other goals, with Quesada’s team ending the match with another technical goal, for a total of eleven scores.
A clear and flawless victory that, albeit against a rebuilding Namibia, gives morale and confidence to the Azzurri. Now Italy is awaiting the double, very tough challenge to South Africa
