Club World Cup: Palmeiras in quarters, Botafogo beaten in overtime

It is Palmeiras that is the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup.

In the Brazilian derby with Botafogo, played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the São Paulo-based team defeated its Carioca rivals 1-0 after extra time, as at 90′ the score was deadlocked at 0-0.

The decisive goal was scored on 10′ of the first overtime by Paulinho, a lead that Palmeiras managed to defend until the end despite being down to 10 in the final due to Goemz’s expulsion for double caution.

The Paulistas’opponent will be the winner of the match between Benfica and Chelsea, the second of the Italian night.
