Jannik Sinner, prior to his Tuesday first-round match at Wimbledon against Luca Nardi on Tuesday, appeared at a press conference with his usual lucidity and maturity. The world number one spoke openly about the recent change within his technical staff, explaining the separation from athletic trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio. It was a decision that caused some discussion, especially because of the timing, but one that Sinner wanted to downplay in clear words: “Nothing egregious happened. These things happen in sports. Sometimes you just have to take different paths, and that’s what I did.”

Sinner stressed that there were no specific reasons behind the farewell, only the need for change: “We did a great job together, even the Roland Garros final was an achievement built thanks to the whole team. But I felt the need to do something different.” The South Tyrolean champion added that it is not yet time to think about replacements: “I understand that the timing may seem strange, but I have worked a lot before and will not be affected now. It’s a decision that matured after the tournament in Halle.”

In the conference, Jannik also talked about his mental state: “I feel good, ready to face an important tournament like Wimbledon. In Halle I was not at the top physically, but now the condition is good.” He also touched on off-court aspects, enthusiastically recounting his collaboration with Gucci and recent participation in a music video with Andrea Bocelli: “A special experience, it opened me to a new world.”

Finally, with his usual smile, he confirmed his participation in the mixed doubles at the US Open with Emma Navarro: “We’ve only just met, but it will be fun. It’s a chance to do something different, also for the fans.”
