Elisa Longo Borghini won by detachment the women’s road race of the Italian cycling championships, with start and finish in Darfo Boario Terme after 130.4 kilometers.
The Piedmontese two-time Olympic bronze medalist placed the’decisive sprint 21 kilometers from the finish when only Monica Trinca Colonel (eventually second) and Eleonora Ciabocco (third) were able to resist her.
The UAE Team Emirates rider subsequently pulled away on her way to capture the sixth Italian title of her career, and the third consecutive.
