Jasmine Paolini drops to No. 5, bypassed by Iga Swiatek

Pole Iga Swiatek – a finalist yesterday in the tournament on the grass of Bad Homburg, where she was defeated by Jessica Pegula – has gained four positions in the Wta rankings, rising from eighth to fourth place.
That is the one so far occupied by Italy’s number one, Jasmine Paolini, who has now dropped one step. It was precisely the Polish player who had beaten the Italian in the semifinals of the German tournament.
The women’s ranking was updated by Wta on the eve of Wimbledon and still sees Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka at the top, ahead of U.S. Coco Gauff and Pegula.
Behind Paolini are China’s Zheng Qinwen , Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Madison Keys of the United States. Completing the top 10 are Paula Badosa of Spain and Emma Navarro of the United States.
The’only other Italian national in the top 100 is Lucia Bronzetti, who drops two positions, to number 63. Beyond the 100th position, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, now number 116, recovers six. Small steps forward also for Lucrezia Stefanini (161), Nuria Brancaccio (183) and Martina Trevisan (188).
