MotoGp, VR46: Franco Morbidelli outspoken on a not easy Sunday

After his ninth place in Saturday’s Sprint Race, Franco Morbidelli got a better position in Sunday’s MotoGp race in Assen, closing with a seventh place in a race that was not easy, but able to give important points in the internal struggle of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, which sees the 2017 Moto2 champion keep 3 points ahead of his teammate, Fabio Di Giannantonio.
“In the end, seventh position is a good result on the most difficult track of the year for me – admitted the 1994-born centaur -. I have always struggled here and I knew it would happen this weekend as well. We struggled less than I expected and that is good. In the first half of the race I fought for the leading positions, then I started to struggle with the bike and had to slow down”.
“I also served a Long Lap Penalty – recounted Morbidelli again, who has been missing the podium since the Qatar Grand Prix, where he took third in both Saturday’s sprint and Sunday’s race -. Now we rest a bit and then prepare for Sachsenring, which is a friendlier track for us”.
Pablo Nieto, team manager of the association founded by Valentino Rossi, also commented on the result captured in Holland: “The weekend here in Assen was decent for the whole team, we definitely expected something more for both Fabio and Franco. In my opinion we have to go back home and analyze all the data we have to understand what happened. After Mugello, when you come from a podium you are always very charged, but here in Assen we missed something. For the next race in Sachsenring we aim to get back on top and hopefully do better”.
