Club World Cup: Inter eliminated, Fluminense in quarterfinals

The first defeat in the Club World Cup cost Inter dearly. At the ‘Bank of America Stadium‘ in Charlotte, in fact, the Nerazzurri fall against Fluminense (0-2): goals by Cano in the first half and Hercules in the final give the Brazilians qualification to the quarterfinals.
A bad start for Inter, which after just three minutes already found itself under: a cross deflected by Arias and a sleep of the Nerazzurri defense that left Cano all alone in the center of the box who beat Sommer with a header. In the 9th minute Inter tried to fight back with Dimarco but his left-footed shot from inside the area was blocked by Fabio. On the half-hour mark, Xavier gobbled up the double. In the 39th minute Fluminense makes it 2-0 but the goal is disallowed for offside.
Inter more aggressive in the second half accomplice also to the entry of Valentin Carboni and Sucic but the first real chance is still of the Brazilian brand: at 62′ Sommer in fact overcomes a right-footed shot by Arias. Six minutes later, however, De Vrij eats up 1-1 from just a few steps on Lautaro Martinez’s bank. In the 75th minute Dimarco dangerous with a free kick from the edge. Seven minutes from the end double chance for Lautaro: first Fabio and then the post denied him the goal. In the final the Brazilians doubled with a diagonal shot from just inside the area by Hercules with his left foot.
Inter must thus say goodbye to the Club World Cup while Fluminense flies to the quarters where it will face the winner of the challenge between Manchester City and Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal.
