Petronilla meets Antonio Faravelli’s wines: an evening of taste, memory and sustainability in Milan

A perfect marriage of oenology and culinary tradition came to life at MaMu – Magazzino Musica on Via Soave 3 in Milan. On stage was the show “Petronilla, a doctor in the kitchen – yesterday’s recipes for tomorrow’s menus,” an original and heartfelt tribute to Amalia Moretti Foggia, better known to the general public by the pseudonym Petronilla.

The event, conceived by Elisabetta Invernici and Alberto Oliva for Galleria&Friends, saw the meeting between the historic recipes of the famous popularizer and the wines of Cantine Vitea, signed by Antonio Faravelli and linked to the Golf & Wine 1895 project. A pairing that was able to enhance two Italian excellences: on the one hand the wine culture of Oltrepò Pavese, and on the other the national gastronomic memory, still capable of speaking to new generations.

Petronilla, played by actress Silvana Filippelli, is ideally back among her audience to tell-with irony, empathy and acumen-about her life and civil commitment. She was in fact among the first women doctors in Italy, as well as one of the first female signatures of the famous weekly La Domenica del Corriere, where from 1929 she won over readers with columns such as “Tra i fornelli.” During the difficult war and postwar years, her advice represented a true beacon for Italian women struggling with ingredient shortages, financial constraints and family needs.

During the evening, the audience-symbolically seated at the table with Petronilla-was able to listen to stories, savor suggestions from the period and discover recipes that are still relevant today, precursors of what we now call anti-waste cuisine. It was Petronilla herself, in fact, who sensed the’importance of creative reuse in the kitchen, transforming leftovers and poor ingredients into tasty and nutritious dishes, anticipating the principles of food sustainability.

The evening ended with a choral applause and a congratulatory toast, of course with the wines of Vitea, which were able to accompany the event with elegance and personality, sealing a moment of culture, memory and good taste.
