Wimbledon, immediately a twist: Daniil Medvedev eliminated

First twist at Wimbledon: Daniil Medvedev, the No. 9 seed in the main draw, was beaten immediately in the first round by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. The transalpine athlete won in four sets with the scores of 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.
The scorching knockout deepens the crisis of the Russian tennis player, who from next week will slip to 14th place in the world rankings.
Medvedev had been a semifinalist in the last two editions of Wimbledon, and in 2024 had eliminated Jannik Sinner. The Muscovite had also exited in the first round at Roland Garros: he hadn’t exited immediately at the opener in two consecutive Grand Slam tournaments since 2017.
Bonzi will face the winner of the match between Kopriva and Thompson in the next round.
