Elisabetta Cocciaretto after eliminating Jessica Pegula on her Wimbledon debut joked at a press conference. “Hello everyone, I introduce myself…”.

“Playing here on an incredible court, in an incredible tournament is a dream come true for me. I was looking forward to playing Wimbledon this year. I have been training hard to be able to give my best and be able to play as many matches as possible here. She is an incredible player, an example for everyone, a great champion. It was an incredible match: thanks to my team and the audience, without them I would not be here today.”

“I had already faced great champions like her, Iga Swiatek or Aryna Sabalenka: against them on the court you have to give your all and try to take those little opportunities they give you. I tried compared to my other matches to be more aggressive, not to think about winning or losing the point but simply to give my best, and I think I did that pretty well today and I’m very happy about that.”

“Last year I had pneumonia and was in the hospital and was out for a month and a half. I really wanted to play this tournament. With the ranking I have I can play certain tournaments but others I can’t but I don’t want to think too much about the ranking. The season is long, there are ups and downs, you have to try to have fun and accept what life has to offer” she finally recalled.
