Matteo Ruggeri leaves Atalanta: he is from Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid announced through an official note the arrival of Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. The Italian left-back, class of 2002, signed a contract with the Spanish club valid until June 30, 2030.
Born on July 11, 2002, in San Giovanni Bianco, Lombardy, Ruggeri joined Atalanta’s youth sector at the age of nine and made his first-team debut on Nov. 3, 2020, at only 18 years old, in a Champions League match against Liverpool.
A left-back with good cross-cutting ability and great stamina, he played on loan at Salernitana in the 2021/22 season. He returned to Bergamo the following year and has become an important element in Gian Piero Gasperini’s chessboard.
He has been a key player in the team.
After 15 appearances in the 2022/23 season, he had his definitive consecration in the following year, playing 48 games in all competitions. In the 2023/24 season, he was included in the team of the season of the’Europa League, a competition he won together with Juan Musso, whom he will now rejoin at Atletico.
The team was also a member of the Europa League.
A constant presence in the Italian youth national teams, he was summoned to the senior national team for the first time in March 2025, for the Nations League quarterfinal match against Germany.
