Tragic accident, Liverpool’s Diogo Jota dies

Diogo Jota, a 28-year-old Portuguese footballer for Liverpool, died tonight in a car accident in the province of Zamora, Spain.
The accident occurred at kilometer 65 of the A-52 highway, at the height of Sanabria: the vehicle in which Diogo Jota was traveling along with his brother André, 26 and also a professional soccer player for Penafiel, left the road and caught fire.
According to witnesses who alerted 112, the car was engulfed in flames, which also spread to the surrounding vegetation. Nothing could be done for the two brothers.
Diogo Jota, 28, had arrived at Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton for 44.7 million euros. Since then he has played 182 games with the Reds, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. In that time he has won three trophies with Liverpool: a Premier League (2024-25), an FA Cup (2021-22) and a League Cup (2021-22).
The Portuguese international had also had a brief experience with Atlético Madrid. The Colchoneros had bought him from Paços Ferreira in 2016 for seven million. He scored in a friendly against Crotone (0-2), but never made his debut in official matches. That same summer he was sold on loan to Porto. He later moved, again on loan, to Wolverhampton, before being bought outright in 2018 for 14 million.
Just a few days ago he was married to Rute Cardoso. Now the tragic news that has left everyone speechless.
