The national swimming team that will take part in the 22nd World Championships scheduled in Singapore from July 27 to August 3 has been announced. 34 athletes have been summoned: 16 girls and 18 boys. All relay teams are enrolled. The youngest of the group is Bianca Nannucci, 17 years old on March 24, who won the European youth 200 freestyle title on Wednesday; the most mature is 32-year-old sprinter Silvia Di Pietro.

The team is led by Olympic champions Gregorio Paltrinieri, who is competing in all the open water swimming events from July 16-20, Thomas Ceccon and Nicolò Martinenghi, and multiple international medalists Simona Quadarella and Benedetta Pilato. The presence of the youngsters is numerous, with 18-year-olds Carlos D’Ambrosio (the youngest of the entire Italian delegation to the Paris Olympics) and Sara Curtis, who start the renewal of the group ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. “The technical direction of the national team has maintained its oft-repeated commitment to foster generational turnover through participation in a world event – emphasizes technical director Cesare Butini – We believe it is essential for the younger ones to gain high-level international experience and to help them fit into a heterogeneous group made up of champions and important middle values. I am sure that the more experienced athletes will facilitate their integration. This is also why we have registered all the relays. The world championship will be difficult because it opens a new four-year period, so comparisons with the past would be misleading. Together with the coaches of the clubs, following the federal guidelines, we try to work to train strong athletes who will ensure cyclic results. The’hope is that the youngsters improve and the more experienced ones maintain their high standards of performance, serving as an example and fueling emulation. We are confident, but also aware that only with maximum commitment, both personal and team, can good results be achieved”.

The competitions will be held at the World Aquatics Championships Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub, which will also host artistic swimming. 10-lane pool in a facility that can accommodate more than 5,000 spectators. The national swimming team will start on July 20.
