Luciano Darderi succumbs in four sets to Jordan Thompson

Luciano Darderi, world number 59, was defeated in the third round of the Wimbledon men’s singles by Australian Jordan Thompson, number 44, with a score of 6-4 6-4 3-6 6-3.
The Italian-Argentinian lost his serve immediately in the first game of the match, on 2-3 missed three consecutive counterbreak points, saved a set point on 5-3 but then Thompson closed the partial at the second chance in the following game.
A break in Thompson’s favor also decides the second set at 1-1 and throughout the partial there are no other break points. Luciano saves three break points at 1-1 in the third set, two of which are consecutive, in the next game he finally breaks his opponent’s serve, saves another break point at 3-1 and then is in no further danger by extending the match.
Darderi on 1-1 in the fourth set misses two break points, saves one in the next game, but then on 3-2 in his own favor Thompson makes the decisive breakthrough bringing home the victory after two hours and 53 minutes of play.
