When Lorenzo Sonego plays Lorenzo Sonego at Wimbledon: background with Brandon Nakashima

Lorenzo Sonego, world number 47, will play his Wimbledon men’s singles third-round match tomorrow against Brandon Nakashima of the United States, number 34.

Sonego hopes to land in the round of 16 for the first time at the Championships; the U.S. has already been there in 2022. The Turinese’s record in a Grand Slam tournament is the quarterfinals he reached at the Australian Open last January.

In the first two rounds Sonny beat Portugal’s Jaime Faria in three sets and Georgian Lorenzo Musetti’s executioner Nikoloz Basilashvili in four sets, while Nakashima got the better of both China’s Yunchaokete Bu and compatriot Reilly Opelka in four sets.

There is only one previous match between the two tennis players and it dates back to the penultimate day of 2024: on the concrete of Hong Kong, Sonego won in the first round 7-6 6-3. The match between the Italian and Naashima will be the second on court number 14, not before 1:30 p.m. Italian time.
