Just like Mattia Bellucci, Luciano Darderi will also face a third-round match of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career on the grass of Wimbledon. The 23-year-old Argentine-born will play Friday against Australian Jordan Thompson.

Darderi is currently world No. 59, Thompson No. 44 and last November touched No. 26, has twice been to the round of 16 at the US Open, at Wimbledon, however, he had already made it to the third round in 2021.

In the first two rounds Darderi beat Russian Roman Safiullin in five sets and British wild card Arthur Fery in three sets, Thompson on the other hand got the better of first Czech Vit Kopriva and then Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi both times in five sets.

There is no precedent between Darderi and Thompson, the match will be the fourth on court No. 18 after the playing of two doubles matches – one of which is between Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini – and the resumption of the match between Monfils and Fucsovics. However, it will not start before 3 p.m. on Friday, July 4, Italian time.
