Tour De France: Ganna withdraws during the first stage

Bad news for Italian cycling. During the first stage of the Tour De France, Filippo Ganna fell, suffering some abrasions and taking a blow to the back. The accident occurred at the exit of a traffic circle, 132km from the finish.
The Verbanese rider got back on the saddle and rejoined the peloton almost immediately, raising hopes about the extent of his injuries. Only after crossing the cobblestone section of the Casselberg KOM, however, was he forced to raise the white flag and withdraw from the race. Probably due to the vibrations, the pain in his back became more acute, not allowing him to continue further.
A blow for Ineos and for Italian cycling, which had in Ganna one of the spearheads of this edition of the Tour De France.
