Flavio Cobolli spoke at a press conference after his victory over Cilic earned him a historic quarterfinal at Wimbledon: “I always dreamed of being here and playing this tournament, never imagined I would reach the quarterfinals. I started playing tennis to experience matches like this in tournaments like this. It is a moment I will never forget. Now I will finally play on the Central and I have deserved it”.

“Ever since I started playing tennis,” he added – everyone has been telling me that I was born to play matches like this. They have always seen me cool and energetic on the court and these are the matches where I can give my best. And I think it is true; I have always loved to match against great players, against the legends of our sport. I am very excited because this is a day I will never forget. I’m proud of what I’m doing and the attitude I have on the field.”

The dedication is for Edoardo Bove, who is present in the stands: “He has been telling me since day one that I would make it to Monday; I was lucky enough to have him here with me today and he will be here next game as well. I am used to always having a lot of people next to me, people who support me, and tonight we will all celebrate the victory together”.

Cobolli finally revealed a secret of his, which also involves Sinner: “I always try to steal something from the strongest; I always train with Jannik, with Carlos, with Nole…I try to train as much as possible with the best and that helps me for the tournament and for my career. Even though it’s harder, particularly the attention you have to put into it, I think it’s the right thing to do. More than the tennis part, which is extraordinary and for all to see, it is the mental part that is the most impressive thing about these champions”.
