Grigor Dimitrov withdraws one step away from feat, Jannik Sinner to quarters with a shudder

All sorts of things happened in the Wimbledon eighth final that featured Jannik Sinner, who flew to the quarters after being one step away from elimination.
The South Tyrolean, opposing Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, got off to a bad start in a first set lost 6-3 in which he also suffered a nagging elbow injury after a fall on the grass.
In the second, the music didn’t change and the world number 1 was immediately broken again, except to make up for an illusory 5-5 that didn’t put a dent in his opponent, who was able to put his head back ahead and close with two aces for a very heavy 7-5.
After the roof closed on the Central, play resumed but at 2-2 in the third set came the final twist: Dimitrov had to raise the white flag due to a chest muscle problem. Medical intervention was useless: the Bulgarian’s withdrawal gave Jannik Sinner qualification to the quarterfinals.
