Tour: Tadej Pogacar reaches 100 in Rouen, Van der Poel stays in yellow by a whisker

Beaten two days ago by Mathieu van der Poel at the finish line in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Tadej Pogacar took his revenge in the fourth stage of the Tour de France 2025, which took the peloton Tuesday from Amiens to Rouen in Normandy. The Slovenian of UAE Team Emirates XRG won a narrow sprint ahead of Alpecin-Deceuninck’s own rival, who retains the yellow jersey despite the same time in the standings, thanks to the best placings in the four stages so far.
The world champion tried to make up the difference on the tougher slopes in the stage finale, but was unable to break away from his rivals: to achieve victory number 100 in his career, however, he was able to rely on his own explosiveness in the narrow sprint, which saw him ahead of, in addition to Van der Poel, Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), Oscar Onley (Team Picnic PostNL), Romain Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ) and teammate Joao Almeida, all of whom finished with the same time as the winner.
In addition to achieving his 100th professional success, Tadej Pogacar took his 18th stage win at the Tour de France and, in addition, is the first world road champion to win a stage of the Grande Boucle since 2021, when the feat in the rainbow jersey succeeded Julian Alaphilippe. By just one second, however, all that was not enough to take the yellow jersey.
In the overall standings, Van der Poel and Pogacar are paired, with the Dutchman’s advantage relative to overall placements. In third place is Vingegaard with an 8″ gap, followed by Matteo Jorgenson (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) at 19″ and white jersey Kevin Vauquelin (Arkea-B&B Hotels), fifth with 26″ behind the top of the standings. Italians in the shade: Simone Velasco (XDS Astana Team) is the first classified in the stage, in 36th position, while in the general classification we have to go down to 47th place to see a tricolor flag, next to the name of Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team).
