Iga Swiatek for the first time in the semifinals at Wimbledon

Former world No. 1 and now No. 4 Iga Swiatek beat Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova, No. 19, with a score of 6-2 7-5, and for the first time in her career reaches the semifinals of Wimbledon women’s singles.

The Pole saves a break point in the first game, then from 2-2 she strung together seven consecutive games pocketing the first set and going 3-0 up in the second, not before saving three break points in the last of those seven games.

From the fifth to the seventh game there are three consecutive breaks, two of them in favor of Samsonova, a blue player in the youth categories, who recovers at 4-4. At 6-5, however, Swiatek makes the decisive break and brings home the match after an hour and 49 minutes of play.
