Jannik Sinner, John McEnroe’s judgment sparks debate

On the eve of what will be the tenth straight clash ever between Jannik Sinner (5 wins) and Novak Djokovic (4), which will determine who will go on to the final at Wimbledon 2025, John McEnroe’s statements about what may happen on Friday afternoon have made no small noise: for the three-time winner of the men’s tournament, it would in fact be Djokovic who would have a “slight advantage” over the’current world No. 1.
“Novak has a great chance to win another Slam, he knows this court better than anyone else– McEnroe told ‘BBC One’ -Only Alcaraz, at the top of his game, has been able to prove he is human, at Wimbledon. The’only uncertainty concerns his physical condition, but it is certain that he wants to get to what would be his 25th Grand Slam tournament victory”.
On the challenge with the South Tyrolean, McEnroe went on to explain: “Sinner beat Djokovic a few weeks ago, at Roland Garros, plus in his last direct clashes he has always won. This court, however, is the best possible for Novak and already this will lead to a different challenge, if possible with a slight advantage for Djokovic”.
John McEnroe’s statements did not fail to spark debate among fans and insiders, who are sharply divided between those who imagine a new triumph for Sinner, winner of the last four direct clashes, and those who agree with the American, citing the only two previous Wimbledon matches between the two, dating back to 2022 and 2023, both won by the Serb.
