Giro Women, Liane Lippert wins the sixth stage

German Liane Lippert (Movistar) won the 145-kilometer sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia Women, from Bellaria-Igea Marina to Terre Roveresche-Orciano di Pesaro. Swiss Marlen Reusser, also of Movistar, retains the pink jersey as leader of the general classification.

Lippert went into a breakaway with four other riders and in the finale stretched again along with Dutchwoman Pauliena Rooijakkers, beating her in the two-man sprint to the finish. Third across the line was another Dutchwoman, Shrin Van Anrooij. Ninth and tenth place for the best of the Italians, Elisa Longo Borghini and Barbara Malcotti. arrived with the group a minute and a half behind.

“I am overjoyed, it was a fantastic day – said Lippert -The team gave me the green light and I really wanted to repay their support. This stage was similar to the one I won last year, so I thought it was a good idea to try it again. I felt great, it was my day and I took the opportunity”.
