Champagne cork delays Jannik Sinner: John McEnroe furious

Curious incident during the Wimbledon 2025 final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. In the second set of the heated battle on Center Court between the Italian outfielder and the champion from Murcia, during a serving round by the South Tyrolean, a spectator in the stands popped open a bottle of champagne, causing the cork to end up on the court.
The Blue, somewhat unnerved, had to delay his serve for a few seconds and removed the champagne cork from the court, losing time and concentration.
Tennis legend John McEnroe to the BBC commented stymied on the’incident: “At least they should take the bottle off those…”.
A similar incident had also happened a few days ago, during a match of Anisimova. On that occasion the chair judge had been peremptory: “Ladies and gentlemen, can you please refrain from opening champagne bottles when the players are serving?”.
