Italvolley, we start over Serbia in Ljubljana

After the last match played in Chicago last June 30, the men’s national team returns to the field in the Volleyball Nations League. The Azzurri will face Serbia coached by Gheorghe Cretu on Wednesday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m., in the match valid for the first day of Pool 8 of VNL in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The last confrontation between the two national teams dates back to May 12, 2024, when the Azzurri, in a friendly in Cavalese, overcame the Serbs 3-2. There are a total of 41 previous matches, with 25 victories for Italy and 16 for Serbia.
Italy comes to this Week 3 in Ljubljana with two new players who will make their season debut in the event-Alessandro Bovolenta and Edoardo Caneschi-ready to make their contribution in a long and physically and mentally demanding tournament. There are 44 appearances so far for Bovolenta in the Azzurri; 11 for Caneschi.
The tricolor national team, currently third in the overall standings (6 wins and 2 losses), is behind Brazil and Poland and will try to immediately score its seventh victory in this VNL 2025. The challenge against Serbia will indeed be important on the road to qualification for the Final Six, the final stage of the competition reserved for national teams.
