World Cup Qualification 2026: Italy closes in San Siro

Italy will close its 2026 World Cup qualifying run at the San Siro. The Azzurri, in fact, will face Norway, in the ’last match of Group I, at Milan‘Giuseppe Meazza’ stadium on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 8:45 p.m.

New coach Gennaro Gattuso’s men, who will resume their World Cup qualifying journey on Sept. 5 and Sept. 8 by facing Estonia in Bergamo and Israel on the neutral field in Debrecen, will return to Milan eight months after their defeat to Germany in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals: on March 20, 2025, the Azzurri played in front of 60,000 spectators in a match that set a record for a national team match.
In the first two days of the round, played last June under Luciano Spalletti, Italy was defeated 3-0 by Norway in Oslo and then overcame Moldova 2-0 in Reggio Emilia. The Azzurri are currently third in the standings three points behind Israel and nine points behind Norway, who have played one and two more matches, respectively. The first in the group will qualify for the final round of the World Cup, while the runners-up will have to win a World Cup pass through the play-offs.
