Felix Baumgartner is dead: tragic illness while flying in Fermo

Felix Baumgartner has died. Austrian, 56, was one of the world’s most famous base jumpers and skydivers. His extreme feats were famous, starting with his jump from the stratosphere in 2012 from the unreal height of 38,969.4 thousand meters. Fatal was an illness that caught him during his umpteenth launch from the sky: this time occurring near Fermo, in Porto Sant’Elpidio.
According to reports from ‘Il Resto del Carlino’, Baumgartner launched himself on a powered paraglider before losing control of it due to an illness that struck him. At that point he crashed into a wooden structure located next to a swimming pool on the Marche coast. Here he also bumped into a young woman, not in life-threatening danger, who was at the site along with a large group of children.
Also ‘Il Resto del Carlino’ adds that Baumgartner lost consciousness after the impact, going into cardiac arrest. Immediately rescued, the planned emergency helicopter transport to ’Ancona‘Torrette’ hospital in Ancona unfortunately proved futile, as the 56-year-old from Salzburg passed away before the transport even began.
Baumgartner had informed the world of his intention to spend his vacation in the Marche region, complete with content posted on his official social channels. Also in his retinue was his family, but the paratrooper had been clear in’stating his intention to honor his activity with a phrase that in retrospect sends shivers down the spine: “Greetings, flying vacations from Fermo, Italy”.
