Dutch champion issues challenge to Jannik Sinner

During an interview granted to Corriere della Sera, David Pel revealed an anecdote regarding Jannik Sinner. The Dutch ace crossed paths with the world number 1 at Wimbledon and refreshed his memory: “When I met him these days I asked him to take a picture with my girlfriend, he was very helpful. I asked him if he remembered the match against me, he said he only remembers the good things”.
“We faced each other in a tournament in Ortisei in doubles. It was 2019, Jannik was very young. I am one of the few who have a positive record with him, I hold on to it! I see he plays very little in doubles, who knows if there will be a chance to face him again…” advanced the Dutchman.
This year David Pel and Rinky Hijikata made it a bit of a surprise to the men’s doubles final at Wimbledon, then lost to the Julian Cash-Lloyd Glasspool pair. The Dutchman and the Australian found themselves playing together in a rather bizarre way: “He sent me a message but I didn’t get around to reading it; he eliminated it right away. The next day I met him in person and asked him if he needed anything.
“‘Yes, I am looking for a partner for doubles at Wimbledon, but I am waiting for a response from another player, that’s why I deleted the message’was the response, in the end it was my turn but it went pretty well” concluded David Pel.
