E' Sergio Campana, historic president of Assocalciatori, has died

Mourning in the world of soccer for the passing of Sergio Campana, the first and longtime president of the Italian Footballers&#8217 Association. Campana led the union for 43 years, from 1968 to 2011.

The historic executive passed away in his hometown of Bassano del Grappa on Friday at a nursing home where he had been hospitalized for several weeks due to worsening health.

Campana as a footballer wore the Lanerossi Vicenza jersey for most of his career, playing 240 games and scoring 46 goals. He’was also at Bologna for a two-year period. Under his leadership the AIC obtained recognition of sports worker status for soccer players under Law 91 of 1981.
