Changed plans for Jannik Sinner: the recent Wimbledon winner has decided to forfeit the Toronto Masters 1000, scheduled for July 27 to August 7. L’Azzurro has decided to extend his vacation and regain his energy for the last commitments of the season, and will not participate in the tournament in Canada.

The British Jack Draper and Serbia&#8217s Novak Djokovic will also miss the Toronto event. Sinner, who is enjoying days off in Porto Cervo in Sardinia, is expected to participate instead in the Cincinnati Masters 1000, which he already won last year and is scheduled for Aug. 7-18 in Ohio.

The tournament will be preparatory ahead of the U.S. Open starting in late August, where Sinner will defend the crown he won last season by overcoming Taylor Fritz in the final. “I am really disappointed to miss the National Bank Open in Toronto especially because I have very fond memories of playing in Canada. Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the beginning of a really special moment for me, but after talking to my team, I have to bounce back. I would like to thank Karl Hale, the tournament director, for all he does to support us as players and I look forward to returning to Canada and Toronto in the future to play in front of these fantastic fans“.

Sinner is aiming to defend his ATP ranking lead from the onslaught of Carlos Alcaraz, who has not yet announced whether or not he will participate in the Canadian tournament.
