Mats Wilander kidnapped by Jannik Sinner: "He is ten years ahead"

Jannik Sinner with his maximum performances in recent months and years has earned the esteem, respect and sporting love of great names in tennis of all time. The latest is Mats Wilander, who after a long career and many victories (in 1988 he closed the season as world number one) is now a coach. And his words about the champion from Alto Adige reduces from the historic Wimbledon 2025 triumph are clear: “He is five, maybe ten years ahead of how I imagined tennis would evolve”.
These words are part of an ’interview with ‘L’Equipe’ with which Wilander certainly did not hide: “Never in my life had I seen someone play tennis as aggressively as Sinner does. Who by the way doesn’t hit like a madman everything that comes at him, but always looks for the’advance on the ball”.
“Someone who can hit the ball harder than he can is there, but he gets there faster than anyone else. And by doing so he plays up, without needing to wait for it to come back – Wilander added in his analysis — Sinner has turned the speed of the game upside down, somewhat like what happened when quick passes were first seen in soccer”.
“I get the impression that Sinner is paving the way for a new kind of tennis. He will soon become a model, because not everyone can play the Alcaraz way. To do so would require a talent of enormous rarity. Instead, everyone can try to be inspired by Sinner, who certainly has class but above all total dedication” concluded Wilander.
