After nearly 40 years and more than 640 appearances as head coach between A and A2, but with experience also in the Korac Cup, Euroleague, Eurocup, FIBA Europe Champions Cup, EuroChallenge, Super Ligi (Turkish Serie A) and Bundesliga (German Serie A), the DOC Imolese returns to his home.
Born in 1963, Dalmonte began his very long career in the ranks of Basket Rimini, first as assistant and then as deputy to an’institution of the Italian basketball scene such as “Dado” Lombardi. After his first experience as head coach at Virtus Imola, he moved to Serie A2 in Brescia, where he spent three seasons as deputy and head coach. From 1993 to 1997, after a year as head of Forlì’s youth team, he moved to Fortitudo Bologna for the first time as deputy to Sergio Scariolo, Valerio Bianchini and Petar Skansi, but with a very important parenthesis as head coach in the very heartfelt derby of the “Basket City” won on November 24, 1996 against Virtus Bologna: It was precisely from that experience in Emilia that the career of the coach from Imola gained momentum, who would later become head coach of some great basketball realities such as Siena, Avellino (promotion to A1 in 2000), Reggio Emilia, Roseto, Ferrara, Teramo, Cantù and Pesaro.
In 2012 came his debut in Turkey as Pianigiani’s deputy at Fenerbahce, while from 2013 to 2015, at the same time as his deputy experience in the national team (lasting from 2010 to 2016), he returned to Serie A in the ranks of Virtus Roma. This was followed by a three-year stint at Scaligera Verona and the first return to Fortitudo Bologna in which he led the “F” to permanence in the top division, before moving to the Frankfurt Skyliners in 2022, again to Fortitudo Bologna in 2022-23 and finally to Nardò, also in A2, in 2024.
