The sixth day of the Tbilisi 2025 World Championships saw two Italian swordsmen finish at the foot of the podium. Only one hit, in the quarterfinals against the Hungarian Siklosi (12-11), denied the medal zone to Davide Di Veroli, who finished in 5th place, while the very young Matteo Galassi, still Under 20, finished 7th, the protagonist of a great competition that ended only in the final credits in the presence of the Ukrainian Koshman (15-13). Applause and regrets also for the saber Michela Battiston, 10th after losing at the last breath (15-14) against the French and vice Olympic champion Balzer in the round of 16. For Italy, after the foil team’s splendid gold won yesterday, it was a Sunday without medals in Georgia but with many important indications for the future.

Davide Di Veroli, number 6 on the scoreboard, on his way beat Switzerland’s Favre (15-11) and Denmark’s Jorgensen (15-6) with great authority in his first two matches of the day. The Roman Gold Flames fencer continued his run with a 15-11 victory over Czech Jurka. For the Milan 2023 silver medalist, the stop came in the quarters where he struggled until the last second but was overtaken with a score of 12-11 by the Magyar Siklosi finishing in 5th place.

He was stopped in the quarterfinals.

He also stopped one step short of the podium, Matteo Galassi. The Carabiniere from Romagna, coming back from Saturday’s qualifying round, overcame Czech Rubes (15-9) in the round of 64 and then Hungarian Andrasfi (15-14) in the round of 32. For the vice world champion in the Youth category then came a victory in the round of 16 over Belgium’s Loyola (15-8), which was worth entry into the “top 8.” In the quarters, the 2005 class’ ride came to a halt, beaten 15-13 by Ukraine’s Koshman, which sealed Galassi’s seventh place in his first world championship among the “big boys.”
Instead, Andrea Santarelli finished 36th, followed by Valerio Cuomo (41st).

In women’s saber, the best of the Italian women was Michela Battiston. The Aeronautica’s Friulian entered the competition with a 15-10 success over Spain’s Hernandez in the round of 64. In the round of 32, the Italian saberer won over Germany’s Herbon (15-13). The last hit was fatal to Battiston in the round of 16, beaten by France’s Balzer 15-14.
Stop in the round of 32 for Eloisa Passaro and the other under-20 of the blue expedition, Mariella Viale 25th and 27th respectively. She finished in 59th position Chiara Mormile.

On Georgian Sunday, the team competitions in men’s saber and women’s foil also began.
The Italian saber team consisting of Luca Curatoli, Michele Gallo, Matteo Neri, and Pietro Torre beat Thailand 45-29 in the round of 16, qualifying for the round of 16 where they will face Germany tomorrow (at 7 a.m. Italian time).
Passes by right, on the other hand, for Italy’s women foils: the quartet formed by Arianna Errigo, Martina Favaretto, Anna Cristino and Alice Volpi, being the number 1 seed, skipped the first round and will be on the platform directly tomorrow (7:45 a.m.) in the round of 16 against Romania.
