As made known directly by the offices of Lega Serie A, starting with the 2025-2026 season, matches of the Italian top league and Primavera 1 that cannot be played on the scheduled date or are interrupted while the match is in progress will have to be made up within 24 hours or, in any case, on the first useful date (in case of concurrent windows for National teams or Cup commitments of at least one of the two teams). A choice, this one, that has already divided fans, igniting a new controversy.

The decision to accelerate the recovery time stems, according to the top management of Serie A, from the need to ensure greater fluidity in the calendar, reducing the inconvenience related to match congestion. However, there are many fans who believe how this approach risks penalizing teams directly affected, as happened on some occasions in 2024-2025, by unforeseen events, such as emergencies on the field or sudden bereavements.

Other fans, on the other hand, have welcomed the new rule, believing that a soccer match should not turn into a complicated case to be handled even months down the road. In any case, clubs face a new management challenge, with significantly tighter timelines to meet.

However, it will be the reality of the field, with its complexities and surprises, that will reveal the true extent of this regulatory intervention, whether it will prove to be a step forward in the modernization process of Italian soccer, or on the contrary an overly rigid forcing, capable of souring relations between clubs, institutions, TV and fans.
