Simona Quadarella and Thomas Ceccon between joy and regrets: double silver for Italy!

Simona Quadarella and Thomas Ceccon d’silver at the World Swimming Championships underway in Singapore: the Azzurra pulled off a real feat, taking second place in the 1,500-meter freestyle behind the elusive American Katie Ledecky: for her also the European record in 15’31″79, which had lasted for a good 12 years.
“I didn’t think I was going so fast, the European record I had been thinking about for years, I never expected it, and it has come now”, rejoiced after the race Quadarella, on her eighth world medal.
Ninth rainbow medal instead for the phenomenal Thomas Ceccon: the 100 backstroke Olympian clinched the silver medal in a comeback with a time of 51″90, beaten only by South African Pieter Coetze: last after the first 50 meters, the Venetian champion went wild in the second pool, coming within a step of victory.
Ceccon improved his Olympic time but had to settle for second: after the race the Blue commented bitterly on the silver. “I had come here to win, it’s okay however let’s take it with a grain of salt because I swam under 52”.
