Slovenia without Cancar and Nebo, Erjavec takes it out on the'Olimpia

From Aug. 27 to Sept. 15, the European basketball championships are scheduled. Among the national teams aiming for ultimate success is Slovenia, unless it loses other valuable elements.

Sekulic, coach of the Slovenian national team, has had to take note of Nebo and Cancar, two very important elements on the Slovenian roster, withdrawing from the call-up. Both are under contract with Olimpia Milano. The former is back from several injuries that heavily affected his last season, the latter just signed with the Milanese club after his NBA experience with the Denver Nuggets.

“They negotiated but unsuccessfully with the club (Olimpia Milano, ed.), which replied that they preferred them not to participate. Of course, they can’t forbid it, but when you make certain pressures, the result is clear”, the harsh words of Erjavec, president of the Slovenian basketball federation reported by the media siol.net.

It is certainly not the first time that a club has pressured its players not to participate in international tournaments with its national team. Whether Olimpia Milano will respond to Erjavec“s accusations” remains to be seen. Be that as it may, even without Nebo and Cancar, Slovenia remains a title team for the simple fact that Doncic’s presence appears to be confirmed (he is expected to reach the Slovenian national team’s training camp between August 2 and 4).
