For the first time in history, the Italian men’s national volleyball team has qualified for the final of the Volleyball Nations League. Ferdinando De Giorgi’s Italvolley, among other things, will certainly stand on the podium, something that has never happened in the six previous editions of the tournament that in 2018 officially took the place of the old World League (won six times by the Azzurri).

The semifinal against Slovenia was anything but a walk in the park: already the first set was decidedly balanced, with the Azzurri able, from 17-17, to pull off an 8-5 partial to bring home the first fraction. The Slovenians’ reaction was peremptory, however, and the 25-22 in the second set only partly recounts the domination of Italy&#8217s opponents, who in the fraction even reached a 7-point lead before a slight downturn in the final.

In the third set Slovenia tried to take advantage of the wave of enthusiasm, but Italy despite an uncertain start to the fraction was able to respond strongly, putting the most difficult moment behind them until the final 25-21. Shifting into top gear, the Azzurri never looked back, closing out the match in the next set: 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, thus, the final score.

The Italian team was able to win the match.

As for the scoreboard, an impressive 26 points were scored by a dominant Alessandro Michieletto, but also in double figures were Daniele Lavia with 12 points and Kamil Rychlicki with 11. In the Slovenian house, on the other hand, neither Rok Mozic’s 14 points nor Ziga Stern’s 11 or captain Jan Kozamernik’s 10 were enough.
