After the women’s European Championship final between England and Spain, the America’s Cup final, played at 2800 meters in Quito, also ended in penalty kicks, and the winner over Colombia 9-8 after shots from the penalty spot (4-4 at the end of extra time) was Brazil.

The Seleçao was trailing 3-2 until the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time when Marta, who had entered the field a quarter d’hour earlier, scored a genuine golaço with a shot from outside the box that sent the torcida into a frenzy and took the match into extra time.

Another Marta scored on 14′ of the extra time the 4-3 goal for Brazil, but then Colombia equalized with a goal on a free kick by Leicy Santos.

Inevitable was the conclusion on penalties, Marta missed hers but Brazil converted 5 against the Colombian’s 4 and thus took home the Cup, which was the fourth continental title of her career for Marta.
