Maurizio Gherardini does not forget the three years he lived with Marco Bonamico

The Basketball League Serie A, along with the 16 clubs, also expressed its deepest condolences on the death of Marco Bonamico, a legend of Italian basketball and flag of Virtus Bologna in the ’70s and ’80s (with which he won the 1976 and 1984 Star Scudetti, as well as the 1984 and 1989 Italian Cups).
Nickly nicknamed “the Marine”, with the national team he won Olympic silver in Moscow 1980 and European gold in 1983 in Nantes, and in his career he also wore the jerseys of Siena, Milan, Naples, Forlì and Udine. After retiring he had remained in the basketball world, both as an executive (president of Legadue) and as a TV commentator with Rai and was elected among the LBA Legends in 2020.
“It was a privilege to have him as a player in three unforgettable seasons – newly elected LBA President, Maurizio Gherardini, his executive in the 1989/90, 1990/91 and 1991/92 championships in Forlì, remembers him -. Marco was a unique character with a big heart. The nickname he was given, ‘the Marine’ perfectly depicted his nature, character and ability to convey to everyone the great technical and human qualities he had”.
