Ben Shelton has just captured his first career Masters 1000 in Toronto, and for many insiders in Cincinnati he will be the third seed behind Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Many have drawn parallels with the very Blue, who two years ago began his ascent to the top by triumphing in Toronto.

Shelton, however, declined any comparison with the South Tyrolean in the press conference, curbing enthusiasm and keeping his concentration high: “No comparison with Jannik. I think everyone has a different path and story. I am doing it my way”.

.

Certainly the win in Canada will boost his confidence: “I hope this week will give me a boost and help me be more consistent. I still have to improve”.

Shelton also feels he has improved from a tactical standpoint: “I now understand the’importance of it and I notice that my intelligence on the court is getting better and better. My father knows me perfectly well and I get along well with him as a coach”.
