When Jannik Sinner plays in Cincinnati semifinals vs. Terence Atmane

Three of the four Cincinnati Masters 1000 semifinalists, the top three seeded Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev, were widely predicted, while the fourth is a real surprise: it is Frenchman Terence Atmane, number 136 ATP, who, after beating in a row Yoshihito Nishioka, Flavio Cobolli, Joao Fonseca, Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune, not exactly nobodies, will raise the bar further by challenging Sinner himself in the semifinals.

The match will be played Saturday, Aug. 16, at the P&G Center Court at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, in the Cincinnati metropolitan area of Ohio, USA. The start time is variable and will depend on the two previous matches on the same exchange, the men’s doubles semifinals that will feature Mektic/Ram versus Cash/Glasspool from 5 p.m. Italian time, followed by Musetti/Sonego versus Salisbury/Skupski.

The match between Sinner and Atmane will certainly not be played before 7 p.m. Italian time: it is likely to begin, barring unforeseen circumstances, between 9 and 10 p.m. Between the two it is a totally unprecedented challenge: despite being almost the same age (Sinner is 2001, Atmane 2002) the two tennis players had never had the opportunity to cross arms before the semifinals in Cincinnati.

For Sinner, the Cincinnati tournament is an important opportunity not only to continue gaining momentum ahead of the US Open, but also not to lose points at the ranking level: having won last year&#8217s edition, in fact, the South Tyrolean must repeat himself in this edition of the tournament if he wants to keep the 12,030 points he has collected so far in the world rankings.
