Romelu Lukaku is likely to be out of action for a decidedly long time. The left thigh quadriceps injury sustained in the friendly against Olympiacos in the Castel di Sangro training camp is in fact not minor and the club itself confirmed this in a note dffused on Monday, after the medical examinations the Belgian striker underwent.
“Following the’injury suffered in the match against Olympiacos, Romelu Lukaku underwent instrumental examinations at Pineta Grande Hospital, which showed a high-grade injury of the rectus femoris of the left thigh– reads the statement of the partenopean club -. The blue footballer has already started the rehabilitation process and will also undergo surgical advice”.
Napoli for this reason could return to the market in search of another striker so as not to find itself with a short blanket before the season even begins. Among the names being floated is Manchester United’s Zirkzee, who was left on the bench in his Premier League debut against Arsenal, and Mitrovic of Al-Hilal, whose rich salary in Arabia is no longer enough.

At the moment, Antonio Conte can only count on Lorenzo Lucca as the first forward and while waiting for reinforcements he will have to invent something with the offensive men at his disposal, such as Politano, Noa Lang and David Neres. Napoli will make its league debut on Saturday, August 23, at 8:45 p.m., at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia against newly promoted Sassuolo.
